It is 1:00am and I have been online for the last 2.5 hours trying to research the pros and cons.
When my doctor asked me, "If you are having a boy, do you plan on circumcising?", my immediate reaction was, "of course!" Throughout school, there were girls that would laugh because they saw/ heard about so-and-so who was not circumcised and I've never known a man who wasn't circumcised. So, I guess it is only natural for me to not think outside of the box.
But on the inside, as a mom, the idea of putting my baby boy through his first surgery without any immediate medical reason just doesn't seem right to me... and now after doing some research, I feel even more confused. I am against giving my baby immunizations immediately after being born, why would I want him to go through surgery?
This seems to be a very debatable subject with great ideas/ point on both ends. When it is all said and done, I guess I might be more against doing it immediately and hold off on doing it when he is like 10 and can make such decisions for himself??
Thoughts?
I think it's a great idea to let him decide for himself later.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to adults deciding for themselves, I've heard plenty of stories of guys wanting to "reverse" their circumcision because of complaints of loss of sensitivity and other things.
On the other side, I've never heard of an adult (already comfortable with their body by that time) actually WANTING to be circumcized.
